He was predeceased by: his parents, William Everett and Alice Marie Phillips (Martin); his wife Virginia Arta Willis; his stepfather Harold Conklin; his son Ricky Dean Phillips; his siblings, Nellie McCarty and Harold "Dick" Conklin; and his nephew Richard McCarty.
He is survived by: his daughters, Tammy Jackson of Newton and Melody Phillips of Newton; his grandchildren, Dillon Phillips, Destiny Phillips, Damian Phillips, Dalton Simmons, Danica Jackson and Jasmine Jackson; and his sister Jo Jackson (Mark) of Ottumwa. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
