He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Smith and Agnes Smith (Gibson); his wife Barb Eilander; his son Rodney Smith; and his siblings, Wayne Smith, Lawrence Smith, Bill Smith, Hugh "Frosty" Smith, Dennis Smith, Jim Smith, Illis Hodgson and Helen Cushatt.
He is survived by: his children, Nancy Anderson (Jim) of Newton, Sonja Smith of Newton, Chris Smith (Lorna) of Sioux City, Tracy Smith of Newton and Rob Smith (Kathy) of Des Moines; his grandchildren, Mandy Smith, Eric Smith (Andrea Luetje), Mike Anderson (Holly), Brandon Smith, Greg Smith (Keegan Brumer) and Brittany Smith; his stepgrandchildren, Jason Harker (Terry) and Lissa Fengel (Chad); and his sister Judy Berg (Dale) of Colfax. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
