He was predeceased by: his parents, Aubrey Lafayette and Lolita Fay Jones (Starr); and his son-in-law Rich Lakin. He is survived by: his wife Marvel of Newton; his children, James Vander Veer of Newton, Lori Lakin of Newton, Aaron Jones (Nikki Darter) of Austin, TX, Tracy Leith (Mike) of Urbandale and Holly Gealow (Shawn) of Las Cruces, NM; his grandchildren, Monica Lewandowski, Aaron Parker Darter-Jones, Trace Leith, Julian Gealow, Kira Leith and Aubrey Gealow; and his sister Yvonne Simmons of Bloomfield. He is also survived by his nieces; and several cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
