She was predeceased by: her husband Verne Freie; her parents, Edwin Rathmann and Sophia Rathmann (Beer); her siblings, Robert Rathmann and Helen Rathmann; her brothers-in-law, Lloyd DeBour, Everett Casperson and Wayne Plagge; and her son-in-law Allen Nieland.
She is survived by: her children, Larry Freie (Linda) of Lincoln, NE, Leland Freie (Valerie) of Cedar Rapids, Janet Atkinson of Cedar Rapids, Julie Nieland of Iowa City, Linda Freitag (Jim) of Puyallup, WA and James Freie (Sheila) of Wilton; and her sisters, Norma Casperson, Evonne Plagge and Jeannette (Glenn Freie). She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren.
