He was predeceased by: his parents, Lewis Herman and Jennie Van Donselaar (Van Engelenhoven). He is survived by: his wife Leona Rae Edel; his children, Steve Van Donselaar (Diana) of Otley, Doug Van Donselaar (Lynette) of New Sharon, Don Van Donselaar (Jolene) of New Sharon, Stuart Van Donselaar (Cindy) of New Sharon, Rod Van Donselaar (Robin) of New Sharon and Kristyn Van Donselaar (Joe Phearman) of Kellogg; his grandchildren, Joshua Van Donselaar (Heather), Sarah, Hannah Van Donselaar, Cody Van Donselaar (Kelli), Dylan Van Donselaar (Allison), Emily Van Donselaar, Ryan, Grant, Kaitlyn Van Donselaar, Mason, Graham and Livia Van Donselaar; his great grandchildren, Zeke, Reagan, Haley and Wyatt; and his siblings, Leona "Mae" Van Arkel (Henry) of Oskaloosa, Arnold Van Donselaar (Ileen) of Oskaloosa, Ralph Van Donselaar (LaVonne) of Oskaloosa and Paul (Shirley) of Oskaloosa.
According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and appropriate personal protective equipment are advised for attending these public events.
Memorial contributions honoring John's life can be made to the Mahaska County Saddle Club.
