He was predeceased by: his parents, Jacob Hartmann and Florence Hartmann (Erickson); and his sisters, Geraldine Gordon (Wendel), Lucy Davis (Gene) and Ellen Stange (Arlie).

He is survived by: his wife Helen Stange of New Hampton; his children, Karen Malone (Dave) of Rochester, Kurt Hartmann (Brenda) of Alden, IA and Kristi Klinkhammer (Steven) of Clinton, IA; and his grandchildren, Lexi, Jordan, Justin, Jackie, Bailey, Kara and Tessa.
