He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Messerschmidt and Mabel Messerschmidt (Krohn); his son Timothy Shook; his brothers, Marvin and Dale; his son-in-law Jerry Goldapp; and his brother-in-law Ronald Eggress.
He is survived by: his former wife Marjorie Lustgraaf; his wife Kay; and his children, Sheryl Goldapp of Neola, Greg Messerschmidt (Sheron) of Underwood, Karen Crosse (Danny) of Sioux Falls, SD, Steve Messerschmidt of Neola, Cathy Long of Council Bluffs, Aaron Messerschmidt (Deana) of Waterloo, Matthew Shook (Amy) of Janesville, Dan Shook of Cedar Falls, Becky Alberts (Dan) of Fairbank, Polly Loveland of Richmond, IN and Laura Bruess (Donn) of Cedar Falls. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
