He was predeceased by: his parents, John Franklin and Thelma Monroe (Mallory); his brothers, John Jr. Dennis and Gregory Monroe; and his nephews, Mark and John III.

He is survived by: his wife Lynda Hammerich of Muscatine; and his sisters, Patti Shockley of Palm Coast, Eileen Wilmington of Springfield and Virginia. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
