He is survived by: his wife Diane Williams of Muscatine; his sons, Duane Carpenter (Sheila) of Moscow, Darren Carpenter of Wapello, David Carpenter (Laresa) of Wapello and Danny Carpenter of Muscatine; his stepson Ernie Morgan Jr. (Wendy) of Fruitland; and his brother Thomas Carpenter of Muscatine. He is also survived by many grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; many great grandchildren; several step great grandchildren.
