He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifford Nichols and Monna Nichols (Franklin); his sisters, Pam and Candi; and his sister-in-law Sony.

He is survived by: his former wife Peggy Wheeler; his children, Jeremy Nichols (Heather) of Muscatine and Heather Nichols (Damon Cox) of Grandview; his grandchildren, Dalton Dingus, Cade Nichols, Delaney Nichols, Kenyon Nichols, Chevy Whitlow and Willow Whitlow; and his siblings, Rick (Debbie), Kerry, Corey (Tami), Darla (Dave), Liane (Lenny), Dawn, Tisa and Mindi. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Clay.
