He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold "Toots" Ryan and Melba Ryan; and his sister Mary Kay. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Kohl; his sons, David Ryan (Heidi) and Russ Ryan (Sandy); his grandchildren, Jacob Ryan (Alexa), Emily Stamp (Shea), Sarah Eyde (Gabe), Trey Ryan (Caroline), Elizabeth "Libby" Ryan, Paul Ryan, Lauren Ryan, Henry Ryan and Michael "Mikey" Ryan; his great grandchildren, Brody, Ricky and Hayden Ryan; his grandchildren, Breck, Beau, Berkley Stamp and Addison Eyde; and his brothers, James Ryan (Bonnye) of Clive and Tim Ryan (Diane) of Woodlands, Texas..

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Mount Vernon Community School District Foundation or the United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon.

“To the Ryan family ... I first met Mike in South Marion when I went over to introduce myself as I joined the Eastern Iowa FDIC team. He had the Cubs on TV with the sound off listening to Harry. Had that smile on his face. Later he joined the bank in Mt Vernon, while I joined First National in Marion. Years later we would meet up again and chat. Never knew he had a twin sister, and he probably didn't know I have a twin brother. Both of us graduated from UNI, years apart. Great guy. RIP.”
