He was predeceased by: his brother Melvin; and his parent Glen. He is survived by: his sons, Lavern Jr. (Dawn), Christopher (Becky), Carl (Lisa) and Paul (Brenda); his sisters, Lorraine LaGrange and Gloria Robbins; and his wife Carolyn McDonald.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
