He was predeceased by: his parents, Edgar Opperman and Bessie Opperman (Palmer); his former wife Rose Ann of Anamosa; his brothers, Reginald "Bud" (Eva), Eugene (Betty), Burnell (Charlotte) and Merle (Earlene); his parents-in-law, Victor and Edna Knight; his sisters-in-law, JoAn Knight Herron and Delores Knight; and his stepson Don McCarthy.
He is survived by: his adoptive daughter Angela Rose (Eric Victor); his wife Marilyn of Cedar Rapids; his children, Aaron Opperman (Jackie) of Mount Vernon, Angela Larson (Gary) of Bagley, Iowa and Eric of Omaha, Nebraska; his grandchildren, Ellen Pochabradsky (KC), Katheryn Opperman, Rece, Roen Opperman, Lindsay Fones (Isaac), Jennifer Miller (John), Jon Larson (Sara) and Travis Larson (Anastasia); his stepchildren, Steve Moats (Julie) of Roland, Leanne Moats of Hiawatha, Pam McCarthy of Monticello, Curt Moats (Diann) of Anamosa and Shelly Ricklefs (Dan) of Maple Grove, Minnesota.; and his stepgrandchildren, Anna Gibson (Mitch), Mary Kate Biechler (Reikel), Ena Schmitt (Paul), Paul Moats, Morgan Owen (Spencer), Tyler (Ashley), Courtney McCarthy, Cory Moats (Brenna), TJ Moats, Markeya, Paige Moats, Austin, Casey and Grant Ricklefs. He is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren; his fellow.
