He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Roekel and Maggie Van Roekel (Gezel); his siblings, Floyd Van Roekel, John Van Roekel, Dwight Van Roekel, Marvin Van Roekel and Betty Van Wyk Brandstra; and his great-niece Kara Meyer.

He is survived by: his wife Brigitte Meyer; his children, Rita Damery (Brad) of Taylorville and Danny Van Roekel (Jackie) of Montezuma; his siblings, Paul Van Roekel (Sandra) of Grinnelll and Veldine Scott of Des Moines; and his siblings-in-law, Denise Van Roekel of Montezuma, Vera Latcham (Dennis) of Montezuma and Uwe Meyer (Diane) of Montezuma. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Unity Point Hospice, the Blakely-Stevens American Legion Post #169 Building Fund, or the Montezuma Fire Department.
