He was predeceased by: his parents, Arnold Gwin and Marie Gwin (Mullen); his wife Shirley Rupp; his son David Jacobs; his granddaughter Rebecca Imhoff; and his siblings, Wayne Gwin, Wendell, Larry Gwin and Linda Bryan.

He is survived by: his children, Connie Horst (Dana) of Montezuma, Sheryl Yilek (Roger) of Belle Plaine, Glennda Mann (Frank Stanek) of Grinnell, Larry Jacobs of Belle Plaine and Kimberly Van Roekel (Neal) of Montezuma; and his siblings, Marilyn Baustian of Grinnell, Jan Bushong of Montezuma and Nita Stanford (Chris) of Williamsburg.
