He was predeceased by: his parents, Bertha Polen and Lloyd Polen; his wife Marilyn Polen (Bohanan); his sister Beatrice Wallis; and his daughter Katherine Polen.
He is survived by: his sons, John Polen (Melanie) of Hastings and Jim Polen; and his sister Geraldine Edmonds of Missouri Valley. He is also survived by six grandchildren and ten great- grandchildren.
