He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Burkhart and Minnia Burkhart (Kohlmann); his wife Florence Law; and his siblings, Rex, Carl, Joseph, Harold, Bill, Inie McClannahan and Marjorie Layton.

He is survived by: his stepdaughter Carol Roberts of Council Bluffs; and his brother Henry Burkhart. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
