She was predeceased by: her parents, Hilburn Charles and Mary Lou Steffe, Jr. (Lacey); her stepdaughter Valerie Mae Nibbelink; and her brother-in-law Ronald Taylor, Sr.. She is survived by: her former spouse Russell Dean Arms; her husband Harold Vugteveen of Milford; her daughters, Rebecca Jean Leckband (Russell Scott) of Milford, Amy Renee Osler (Rick Allen) of Milford and Jennifer Joann Siemers (Jonathan Bennard) of Spirit Lake; her stepsons, Kevin Dean Vugteveen (Heather) of Spirit Lake and Timothy Dean Vugteveen of Tonasket, WA; her son-in-law Kevin Nibbelink (Deb) of Sioux Center, IA; her grandchildren, Andy Dyhrkopp (Megan), Gracen Arms, Gavin Siemers, Ethan Osler, Evan Osler, Cory Nibbelink (Sarah), Lucas Vugteveen, Jaden Laurie (Rubin), Kyler Vugteveen and Garret Vugteveen; and her siblings, Robert Steffe of Sioux City and Barbara Taylor of Sioux City.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Mary's name and given to the Humane Society.
