He was loved and cherished by many people including: his adoptive parents, Percy Champine and Florence Champine; his girlfriend Janice Kill of Rushmore, Minnesota; his former wife Irene Austin of May City; his children, Michelle Mercer (David) of Milford, Griffin Champine of Ocheyedan and Justin Champine (Amber) of May City, Iowa; his siblings, Charnelle Zeise of Nashville, Tennessee and Stuart Smith of Duluth, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Ashley, Marcus Matthes, Kyle Champine, Derrick Champine, Cody Mercer, Dustin and Theresa Geesman; his great grandchildren, Karee Matthes, Malaysia Matthes, London Matthes, Seraina Geesman and Ezra Geesman; his parents, Percy Champine and Florence Champine; his brother Richard Smith; and his nephew Norman Zeise.
