He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Schmidt and Alice Schmidt (Puhrmann); his parents-in-law, Emil and Leona Petersen; his siblings-in-law, Doyle Ames and Jan Petersen; and his great-nephew Cameron Fabritz.
He is survived by: his spouse Donnia Petersen; his daughters, Deb Merten (Dave) of Storm Lake, Iowa and Darcy Wurth (Brad) of LeMars, Iowa; his grandchildren, Austin, Dylan Wurth of LeMars, Logan and Jenna Merten of Storm Lake, Iowa; his sister Phyllis Ames of Meriden, Iowa; and his siblings-in-law, Marylis Petersen of Paullina, Iowa, Marvin Petersen of Paullina, Iowa, Denny and Lori Petersen of Des Moines. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as many friends.
