He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Schmidgall and Emma Schmidgall (Koehl); his wife Marian Moser; his son-in-law Tom Steiner; his grandson Rob Steiner; and his siblings, Wayne, Francis, Richard, Don, Gilbert, Gene, Gladys and Stella.
He is survived by: his children, Don Schmidgall (Carol), Ron Schmidgall (Jane), Jon Schmidgall (Julie), JoAnn Steiner and Janet Lanz (Ken); and his sister Darlene Carlton. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 65 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
