He was predeceased by: his parents, John Karstens and Sophia Karstens (Kloppenburg); his siblings, Duane Karstens, Evelyn Karas and Eva Simpson; his granddaughter Samantha; and his brother-in-law Gerald Karas.
He is survived by: his wife Jill Karstens of Massena; his children, Brian Karstens (Julie) of Mason City, Scott Karstens (Christine) of Massena, Lisa McAfee (Chris) of Anita and Jason Karstens (Kristen) of Massena; and his brother-in-law Jim Simpson of Atlantic. He is also survived by six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.
