He was predeceased by: his parents, Wallace Nickolas and Ardis Marion Godden (Lockrem); his stepson Gilmore "Justin" Helgeland; his sister Sharon; and his half-brother Delbert.
He is survived by: his former wife Sharon Sable; his family Mary; his wife Kathleen J. Smith; his daughter Mary Determan (Matthew) of Mason City; his grandchildren, Ellie and Henry; and his niece Pamela "Pam" Cisco. He is also survived by 6 sisters, 4 half sisters, 3 half brothers, 2 step sisters, 3 step brothers; as well as numerous nieces, nephews.
