She was loved and cherished by many people including: her mother Hazel Uilk; her foster parents, Darlene Andresen and Herman Andresen of Terril; her children, Connie Wagner (Ben Thomas), Barb Portis (Bernie Smith), Larry Portis (Linda Haberer) and Becky Beenken (Randy); her grandchildren, Amie Portis, Andrew Portis (Sarah), Holly Borchardt (Josh), Katie Portis, Megan Boyd (Parker), Brandon, Brooke Wagner, Stephen Michael (Monica) and Amber Shaffer; her great grandchildren, Kasey, Sydney Pfullmann, Dillon, Mattie Borchardt, Jordae Portis, Jack, Quinn Portis, Asher and Ahna Boyd; her pet Emmi Beenken; her foster siblings, Connie Sidles (Dwayne), Darla Crosser (Mike), Bill Andresen (Leslie) and Andy Andresen (Sharon); her close friends, Verna and Randy Escobedo; her husbands, Kenneth Portis and Martin Monahan; her son Gary Portis; her sisters, Jeannie Webb and Sue Erickson; and her pet Melvin.

She also volunteered at the Salvation Army, Relay for Life, American Cancer Society, Horsemen of Iowa, 4-H Club, and Head Start of Mason City.
