He was predeceased by: his parents, Hilko Pals and Tillie Pals (Blau); his wife Norma Morris; his former wife Maureen Everhart; and his grandson Tanner Pals.

He is survived by: his children, Nancy McLaughlin (Phillip) of Thornton, Jeffrey Pals (Mary) of Mason City and Bart Pals (Jody) of Mason City; his grandson Craig McLaughlin (Susan); his great grandchildren, Ashly, Chase, Giselle and Jane McLaughlin; his sister Viola Barkema of Belmond; his sister-in-law Wilma Hulick of Rochester, NY; and also, Emily, Madeline, Tjaden Pals (Alycia), Jurgen, Ira, Arika McGallian (Eli), Dylan, Lilly, Jessica Post (Aaron), Hannah, Connor, Max, Jonathan Harvey, Katie Pals, Logan Pals (Kathrine) and Samuel. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
