He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold "Harry" and Alice Helm (Priebe); his wife Sara Rath Perau; and his siblings, Robert Helm and Mary Spina.
He is survived by: his children, Dawn Best (Larry), Monte Perau (Carolyn), Randy Perau, Andrea Mujica (David), Teresa Helm (Dan Cochran), Shakopee and Lori Benson (Scott); his grandchildren, Quinton, Cory, Sara, Melanie, Erin, Jeffrey, Emily, Alex, Natalie and Zach; and his siblings, Betty Spina, Linda Daly, Larry and John Helm.
To honor his memory, memorials may be made to the family for purchases to enhance Heritage resident's lives and support Heritage staff in caring for residents. Memorials may also be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2530 University Ave Ste 2, Waterloo, IA 50701.
