He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Shafer and Pearl Shafer (Cox); his parents-in-law, Earl and Marguerite Hanson; his daughter Donna Spencer; and his siblings, Ray Shafer (Wilma) and Leila Atkinson (Walter).
He is survived by: his wife Janice Hanson; his children, Thomas Shafer, Lori Bublitz (Jeff) and Scott Shafer (Toni); his grandchildren, Kaci Shafer, Nicole Gray (Ian), Cody Bublitz (Chantel), Kari Olson, Logan Shafer (Josie Pritchard) and Allan Shafer; his great grandchildren, Xavier, Emmerie, Ryllar, Rexton, Rayven, Lainey, Laci, Eva, Aaron and Bryan; and his brothers, Ralph Shafer (Dixie), George Shafer, Joe Shafer and David Shafer (Alma). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
