He was predeceased by: his parents, Donovan H. Bates and Mildred M. Bates (Kennedy); his brother Larry Bates; and his sister-in-law Gail Bates. He is survived by: his wife Becky Crawford; his children, Amanda Fischer (Josh), Abbigayl Bates and Adam Bates; his siblings, Nancy Anderson (Melvin), Norma Beard (Melvin) and Lester Bates; and his grandchildren, Sophia, Keelie, Isabel, Kayden and Ellie. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
