He was predeceased by: his parents, Lyell Johnson and Ursula Johnson (Mills); his wife Marjorie Moser; his siblings, Marjorie Johnson, Norman Johnson and Robert Johnson; and his great grandchild Neville Nicholas Loehlein.
He is survived by: his children, Dr. Glenn Johnson (Vivien) of Calmar, IA and Molly Allen (Russell) of Sheffield, IA; his grandchildren, Dr. Melissa Holcomb (Roland) of Rapid City, SD, Dr. Mark Johnson (Emily) of Columbia, MD, Paul Johnson of Spring Grove, MN, Carrie Khalaf (Mak) of Maastricht, Jed Allen (Candie) of Sheffield, IA and Alicia Loehlein (Nick) of Andover, MN; and his great grandchildren, Lincoln, Keeley, Reid, McKinley Holcomb, Mara, Vivenna Johnson, Katia, Scarlett Khalaf, Cyrus, Clyde, Colby Allen and Calvin Loehlein.
After the Covid lockdown in early 2020, he lived with his son near Decorah, IA, for almost two years where he loved to watch the wild turkeys and deer. Then after barely surviving Covid, he lived the last two years of his life in the nursing home.
