He was predeceased by: his parents, Ambrose Spain and Geraldine Spain (McDonald); and his brother Duane. He is survived by: his wife Pamela Appelhans of Maquoketa; his sons, Shawn Spain of Greene and Patrick "PJ" Spain of Maquoketa; and his siblings, Patricia Held (Gene) of Barstol, Ill, Donna Determan of DeWitt, Diane Seng (Mel) of Davenport, Dennis Spain (Renee) of DeWitt and Alan Spain of Clinton. He is also survived by four grandchildren.
