He was predeceased by: his parents, Aloysis Schnieders and Eleanora Schnieders (Kramer); his siblings, Ilene O'Connell (Joe) and LaVern Schnieders (Mary); and his siblings-in-law, Valene Schnieders, Darryl Parkinson and Al Hallett.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann Schnieders of Manchester; his children, Dennis Schnieders (Barb) of Lexington, Sharon Demro (John) of Plymouth, Deb Nilles (Jim) of Newton, Gary Schnieders (Mary Chris O'Brien) of Manchester, Nancy McDonald (Tom) of Hopkinton, Alan Schnieders (Shirley) of Manchester, Steve Schnieders (Kelly) of Clear Lake and Kevin Schnieders (Tammy) of Delhi; and his siblings, Mary Lou Parkinson of Edgewood, Shirley Hallett of Cedar Rapids and LeRoy Schnieders of Manchester. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
Merrel was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ilene (Joe) O'Connell; a brother, LaVern (Mary) Schnieders; one sister-in-law, Valene Schnieders; and two brothers-in-law, Darryl Parkinson and Al Hallett. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hills and Dales (Dubuque) or Camp Courageous.
