He was predeceased by: his parents, James Ahern and Ruth Ahern (Flynn); his wife Karen; his brother John Ahern (Susan); and his brother-in-law Bruce McDonald.

He is survived by: his children, Stefanie Shaw (John) of Tabor, IA, James Ahern (Vicki) of Kearney, NE and Michele Ahern of Kansas City, MO; his sister Judy McDonald of Winnipeg, Manitoba; and his brother-in-law Kenny Michaud of Kimberling City, MO. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Jim donated to numerous catholic charities and was a very devoted religious man.
