He was predeceased by: his parents, Julius Steffen and Verna Mae Steffen (Nurre); his brothers, Joseph Steffen and Ronald Steffen; his father-in-law Eugene Vorwald; and his brothers-in-law, Dave Vorwald, Mark Vorwald and David R. Then.
He is survived by: his significant other Linda Vorwald; his children, Scott Steffen (Peggy) of Farley, Tim Steffen (Ellen) of Peosta, Carrie Horsfield (Todd) of Farley, Wendi Ernzen (Marty) of Farley, Ken Steffen (Kara) of Peosta and Daniel Steffen (Amber) of Peosta; his grandchildren, Addison, Lincoln, Jaelynn Steffen, Max, Carley, Josie, Will Steffen, Claire, Cecelia, Cate Horsfield, Josh, Charlie, Joey Ernzen, Jack, Henry, Brynn Steffen, Pippa and Reed Steffen; his siblings, Wayne Steffen (Debbie) of Rickardsville, Terry Steffen (Kathy) of Holy Cross, Laura Harbaugh (Loren) of Sanford, FL, Sam Steffen (Pam) of Peosta and Lois Garin (Denny) of Guttenberg; his sister-in-law Bonnie Steffen of Luxemburg; his mother-in-law Dorrie Vorwald of Holy Cross; and his siblings-in-law, Mari Vorwald of Dyersville, Debbie Then of Holy Cross and Donnie Vorwald (Julie) of Holy Cross.
