He is survived by: his wife Leila Schmidt (Lee); his children, Mary Jennifer Heldorfer (Jim) of Bancroft, IA, Eric Johannesen (Van) of Columbia, MO and Ryan Johannesen of San Francisco, CA; his grandchildren, Heather Heidecker (Adam Jones) of Estherville, IA, Nathan Heidecker (Dallas) of Lakota, IA and Halie Heidecker of Lakota, IA; his great grandchildren, Tucker Heidecker, Brinley Heidecker and Bentley Jones; his sister-in-law Marilyn Johannesen; his extended family, Michael Schmidt (Katie) and Matthew Schmidt (Jennifer) of Mankato, MN; his grandchildren, Olivia, Lily, Liam, Kale, Linus and Marigold; his extended family, Leonidas and Wynne; and his siblings-in-law, Milton Allen and Loreli Allen.
With the onset of Covid, their travel ended with just winter trips to their Texas home.
