He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Blackburn and Ethel Blackburn (Wright); his sister Ruth; his brothers-in-law, Dennis Johnson, Arvey Foate and Robert Schroeder; and his nephews, Jimmy Schmele and Scott Schroeder.

He is survived by: his wife Lola Maronde; his children, David Blackburn (Carolina) of Austin, MN, Connie Munkel (Jon) of Lime Springs, IA, Janet Ponath (Steve) of St. Cloud, MN and Peggy Lensing (Chuck) of Ridgeway, IA; his sisters, Alice Schmele and Nancy Johnson; and his sister-in-law Marcy Schoeder. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren.
