With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Benita Carol Messer of Letts, Iowa, born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, who passed away on April 4, 2022 at the age of 64. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her brother Daniel; her grandson Emrys Thomas Taylor; and her parents, Fredrick Chavez and Patricia Miller Chavez. She is survived by: her husband Ray Messer; her children, Leslie Chavez (Antonio Vega), Lisa Taylor (Landon), Joshua Chavez Lakose and Jesse Lakose; her grandchildren, Sade, Avery, Jada, Santana, Gabriella, Max, Alexander, Vivian, Albert, Anabelle, Aaliyah and Joshua Jr.; her great grandchildren, Aura and Aiyanna; and her siblings, JoEllen Ritchie (David), Fredrick Chavez Jr., John "Flavious" Chavez, David Chavez and Randy Chavez (Pearl). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
