He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Claude Lavern Matheny and Crystal Dorothy Matheny (Evans); his children, Charles Matheny (Brenda) of Des Moines, Iowa and Susan Weese (Bill) of Gulf Breeze, Florida; his siblings, Harry Matheny of Blue Mound, Kansas, Gail Matheny of Lenox, Iowa, Leonard Matheny (Judy) of Lenox, Iowa and Betty Joan Shimer (Dell) of Creston, Iowa; his grandchildren, Trudi, Tim, Amber and Jamie; his great grandchildren, Morgan, Aaron, Gracie, Harrison, Kenadi and Kayli; his wife Ruth Matheny; and his son Chester Matheny.
