He was predeceased by: his parents, Reverend Norman Lawton and Hazel "Lorry" Lawton (Harvey); his siblings, Mary Plath-Dreier (Charley) and Don Lawton; his mother-in-law Alice Nauman; and his brother-in-law Darwin Nauman.

He is survived by: his wife Barb of Ledyard; his sons, David Lawton (Heather) of Humboldt, Daniel Lawton of Forest Lake, MN and Dennis Lawton (Nicole) of Sherburn, MN; and his siblings-in-law, Tom Nauman (Jane) of Grape Vine, TX, Jim Nauman (Lori) of Blue Earth, MN, Jeff Nauman (Joanie) of Haslet, TX and Evelyn Nauman of Panora. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
