Karen Kay (Gotto) Hagar Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Karen Kay (Gotto) Hagar (Le Mars, Iowa), who passed away on April 17, 2025, at the age of 83, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Benedict Gotto and Loretta Gotto (McDermott); her mother-in-law Verna Athens; her husband Robert Hagar; her siblings, Linda Hemmelrick, Donna Hoffman (Charles) and Lawrence'Buzz'Gotto; and her in-laws, Lawrence Hagar, Lorna Hagar, Mike Gengler and Larry Mullally.

She is survived by: her children, Cary Penning (Leon), Pam Nemmers (Mark), Nancy Hansen (Damin), Amy Ruba (Bill), Greg Hagar (Angie) and Heidi Gengler (Kevin); her grandchildren, Jill Mescher (Chad), Michael Ruba (Michelle), Maggie Rechtenbaugh (Mychal), Jenni Hansen (Devin Mongan), Joe Penning (Katie), Adam Nemmers (Natasha), Eric Ruba (Lindsay), Alex Hansen, Mollie Nemmers, Russell Ruba, Tiffany Sonne (Cole), Robert Hagar (Michelle), Brandon Hagar and Jacob Nemmers; her great grandchildren, Josie, Reese, Mason, Sage, Greyson, Max, Maddox, Jaxon, Marlee, Charlotte, Macy and Reid; her sisters, Marlene Gengler, Jo Ellen Mullally, Patty Mullally (Tom) and Vicki Lamp (Jeff); and her in-laws, Lowell Hagar, Laura Hall and Brett Hemmelrick. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A rosary was held on Thursday, April 24th 2025 at 4:00 PM at the Rexwinkel Funeral Home (107 12th St SE, Le Mars, IA 51031). Visitation was held on Thursday, April 24th 2025 from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM and on Friday, April 25th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM. A prayer was held on Thursday, April 24th 2025 at 7:00 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, April 25th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the All Saints Catholic Church - St. Joseph (605 Plymouth St NE, Le Mars, IA 51031).
