He was predeceased by: his parents, Anton Pottebaum and Anna Pottebaum (Pick); his parents-in-law, John and Frances Ahlers; his siblings, Tarsella Probst (Milo), Berdella Schueller (Herb), Florence Thole (Ray), Bernice Block (Ambrose), Eugene Pottebaum, Howard Pottebaum, Anthony Pottebaum, Donna Rae Krogman and Arlin Pottebaum; and his in-laws, Mary Ellen Erlandsen (Chuck) and Frances Ahlers.
He is survived by: his wife Carol Ahlers of Le Mars; his son Al Pottebaum (Debbie) of Le Mars; his grandchildren, Tyler of Chicago, IL, Jonah (Massiel) of Henderson, NV and Will of Ft. Worth, TX; his great grandchild Sandy Small (Joel) of Hinton, IA; his siblings, Ivan Pottebaum (Clare) of Granville, IA, Mary Ann Walker (Art) of Lady Lake, FL and Orville Pottebaum (Mary Ann) of Alton, IA; and also, Kaylee (Trent), Baker of Sloan, IA, Kenzie Small of Sioux Falls, SD and Jay Small of Sioux Falls, SD. He is also survived by many in-laws, nieces, nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, April 3rd 2025 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Rexwinkel Funeral Home (107 12th St SE, Le Mars, IA 51031). A memorial service was held on Thursday, April 3rd 2025 at 6:00 PM at the same location.
