He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter William and Mildred Victoria Elsbecker (Heinen); his sisters, Janice and Karen; and his stepson Jimmie Lawson.

He is survived by: his wife Marlene Summers of Laurens; his daughters, Crystal Elsbecker of Sioux Falls, SD and Leah Box of Marshall, MN; his stepchildren, Heidi of Ames, Roger Coppinger of San Antonio and John Coppinger of Laurens; and his sisters, Mary Martin of Elkhart and Darlene Belt of Dakota City.
