He was predeceased by: his father Gordon Thompson; his daughter Kacy; and his stepfather Harlan Peterson. He is survived by: his mother Linda Thompson (Lawrence) of Emmons, MN; his former wife Lori Baumann; his children, Kayla Moon (Chris) of Manly, IA and Codi Thompson (Angel) of Forest City, IA; his grandson Cohen Moon; his siblings, Lance Thompson (Carol) of Joice, IA, Howard Peterson (Carrie) of Scarville, IA and Pam Heinzerling (Russ) of Ankeny, IA; his close friend Todd Marpe of Emmons, MN.; his nieces, Lily Thompson, Halle Peterson and Marissa Phillips (Sawyer); and his nephew Austin Heinzerling. He is also survived by relatives and friends.

Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time.
