Harold Dean Hinderaker Obituary

Harold Dean Hinderaker, 80, passed away at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Forest City Iowa, on August 30, 2020 due to COVID-19.

A small funeral service for Harold will be held outdoors at the Salem Memorial Cemetery, rural Lake Mills on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 11:00am with visitation one hour before. Pastor Douglas Farrell will officiate.

Attendees are encouraged to social distance, wear masks, and bring their own lawn chairs.

Harold was born to Clarence and Ruth Hinderaker on September 3, 1939 and was raised in Sargeant MN. Harold was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He attended Country School #114 through 8th grade then worked on a family farm.
Harold married Rose Myers in June 1965 and they were blessed with four sons; Daniel, Darrell, Duane and Delbert. Early on, Harold was a farmer then worked in various manufacturing factories and lived in multiple towns in northern Iowa. While Harold and Rose later divorced, Harold remained close with his sons. It was well known that one of Harold's proudest moments was when he became a father. Harold's heart was broken when his son, Darrell, passed away on August 27, 2018.

In his 40's Harold experienced life changing events. Harold was ambitious enough to pursue his education and earned his GED. But Harold's most memorial event was when he became a born again Christian; accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. Harold was not shy about his thoughts on religion and enjoyed engaging in conversations with others about the Bible.

Harold enjoyed working on lawnmowers, tractors, cars, reading, and attending threshing events with his brothers. A hobby that Harold kept from many people was that he had an amazing ability to write heart felt poems and at one point considered working for Hallmark. Harold will always be remembered by his sweet smile and loud laugh.

Over the last few years, Harold struggled with symptoms of dementia. He lived with his son, Dan (and Charleen), prior to moving into the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Forest City, Iowa in February, 2020. While we rejoice knowing Harold is made whole again and in the everlasting arms of the Lord, we deeply mourn his loss.

Harold is survived by his beloved sons, Dan (Charleen) Hinderaker of Forest City, IA, Duane (Deb) Hinderaker of New Richland, MN, Delbert (and finance Ann) Hinderaker of Forest City, IA; daughter-in-law, Mary Hinderaker of Scarville, IA; grandchildren, Tiffany (Cody) Hagar of Fort Dodge, Avery (Halle) Hinderaker of Lake Mills, IA; great grandchildren, Carsen Hagar, Sawyer Hagar, Ryland Hagar of Fort-Dodge, IA and Rhaylee Hinderaker, Ripley Hinderaker of Lake Mills, IA; sister, Audrey Halsey of Austin, MN; three brothers, Gaylord (Sharlene) Hinderaker of Waverly, IA, Charles (Shirley), of Dexter, MN, Roger (Nancy) Hinderaker of Shell Rock, IA and many nieces and nephews.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; son, Darrell Hinderaker; sister, Phyllis Hinderaker; brother, Rueben Hinderaker and nephews, Mark Hinderaker and John Hinderaker.
