He was predeceased by: his parents, Darlene Southwick and Clarence Southwick; and his siblings, Vera, Arthur "Lester" and Carl Southwick.

He is survived by: his sons, Vern Southwick Jr. and Patrick Beardsly; his nieces and nephews, Gene Southwick (Carol), James Southwick (Janiece), Duane Jeffers, David Southwick (Toni), Dennis Jeffers (Nikki), Raymond Southwick, Cassandra Gathercole, Kathy Gott, Rose Schoonover, Tami Southwick, Shelly McClain (Chad) and Christy Southwick (Loren); his great-nieces, Abe, Karsyn Sotter and Brandee Tully; and his close friends, DJ Blake of Lacona and Butch of Des Moines.
