He was predeceased by: his brother Christopher VanArkel. He is survived by: his parents, Alan VanArkel (Kathy) of Plainfield and Joan Truex of Cedar Falls; his son Gunner Van Arkel of Greeley, CO; and his siblings, Amy VanArkel of Cedar Falls and Ryan VanArkel of Cedar Falls.
Memorials may be directed to his family to create an educational fund for Matthew's son, Gunner.
