He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Alfred Simpson and Amelia Simpson (Leggett); his wife Marilyn Joan Miller; and his siblings, Peggy Stevenson, JoAnn May and Bill Simpson.

He is survived by: his daughters, LaNae Reyburn (Jerry) of Geneseo and Denise Mounsey (Kerry) of Ankeny. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.
