It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Bertha Jane Shafer (Knoxville, Iowa), born in Des Moines, Iowa, who passed away on December 2, 2019, at the age of 89, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Jess Hammersley and Eulah Hammersley (Gasson); her husband Elmer Robert Shafer; and her stepson Dennis Shafer. She is survived by: her children, Steven Shafer (Jacinda) of Knoxville, Scott Shafer (Juli) of Georgetown and Jane Senf (Bernie) of Burlington; and her stepson Douglas Shafer (Margaret) of Tracy. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members and friends.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or to the Marion County Humane Society.
