He was predeceased by: his father Edward Joseph; and his sister Lisa Wilson. He is survived by: his mother Helen Ruth Metz (Schaffer) of LeClaire; his wife Joann Gudenkauf of Keswick; his children, Kellie Byrd (Nate) of Davenport, Christine Metz of Davenport and Brian Metz (Brittany) of Oxford; his grandchildren, Saylor and Barrett Metz; and his siblings, Wayne Metz (Marsha) of Fort Madison, Kenneth Metz (Pam) of Springfield, Kevin Metz (Doris) of Marion, Joann Etten (Daryl Carstensen) of Wyoming and Roberta Pegorick (Robert) of LeClaire.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Keswick First Responders or the Keswick Fire Department in memory of Steven.
