He is survived by: his sister Margaret Troutman of Fort Madison, IA; his children, Esther Lloyd (John), James Hales (Lynn), John Hales (Jan), Steven Hales (Julie) and Myrna Hales-McCarthy (Dan); his grandsons, Scott (Alicia), Nathan (Winnie) and Patrick Hales; and his great grandchildren, Piper and Jack Hales.
