He was predeceased by: his parents, Jasper Harold and Flora Gladys Merritt (Mitchell); his former wife Rosemary Wrenne; his wife Theresa Gorski; his sisters, Bertha and Helen; his stepdaughter Diane Long; and his niece Marilyn Lannen.
He is survived by: his siblings, Audrey Murray of Clinton, IA, Lola Clary of Comanche, IA, Jim Merritt (Beverly) of Keokuk and Kenneth Merritt (Judy) of Moweaqua, IL; and his stepsons, Steve Gorski and Robert Gorski. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made to the Illinois Veterans Home Activities Department or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
